Procedures - Liposuction
Isolated deposits of fat that do not respond to diet or
exercise trouble many men and women. Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to contour such areas and may
be an option for many of these individuals. The ideal
candidate has limited pockets of fat with good quality
elastic skin (i.e. minimal overhang or stretch marks).
Small incisions are made to introduce the suction cannula
deep to the skin. Suction and other techniques are utilized
to remove fat from under the skin. With time and compression garments, the skin re-drapes and tightens
over the treated area. Typical areas that can be treated are
the thighs, buttocks, lower abdomen, flanks, hips and waist.
Often liposuction is used in combination with other
procedures (breast lift or reduction, abdominoplasty etc.),
to enhance the overall result.
It should be noted that liposuction is not a weight loss
technique and as such is not a treatment for obesity.
