Eyelid lift is used for those men and women who have
excess skin and fat involving either the upper or lower
lids. While the majority of patients seek this treatment
to correct age related changes, many individuals in their
thirty’s or younger undergo these procedures to improve
conditions that run in their family.
These popular procedures can each be done alone or
together in combination. They may also be used in
combination with other procedures of the face or body to
improve the overall result.
Upper Blepharoplasty can be performed under local
anaesthesia as an office procedure or in the main operating
room with sedation or general anaesthetic. As a day surgery,
patients are discharged home later that same day.
During the procedure, excess skin and muscle are removed (with limited fat excision)
to correct hooded, droopy (ptotic) lids and create a brighter more alert and rested
appearance. The incisions are well positioned in the natural skin creases of the upper lid,
usually heal to a fine-line scar and conceal well with makeup within the first two weeks.
Lower Blepharoplasty is useful to correct excess fullness, puffiness and skin of the
lower lid. It may also help correct dark circles of the lower lid that persist even when an
individual is well rested. Depending on the amount of skin that needs to be removed incisions are placed either along the inside of the lower lid skin (conjunctiva) or just
below the lower lash line. These incisions may extend to within the wrinkles (Crow’s
Feet) to the side of the eyes.
The aim of surgery is to correct these abnormalities and create a well-rested
natural and alert appearance.
