Procedures - Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction is a surgical procedure indicated for women
who have symptoms related to large heavy and often droopy
(ptotic) breasts. Symptoms can include neck and back pain,
grooves in the shoulders from bra straps and rashes
underneath the fold of the breasts. Some women are
also troubled by an inability to exercise or difficulty
finding bras and clothing that fit.

All surgeries are performed under general
anaesthesia at one of our fully accredited
hospitals. Most patients can be discharged
later that same day. Depending on the
amount of tissue to be removed and the
quality of breast skin, various incisions can
be used. The majority of these incisions
are well concealed beneath the breast and
within the fold. Regardless ofthe incisions
chosen, the goal of surgery remains to
decrease the size, weight and volume of the
breasts and to relieve symptoms. In so doing,
the nipple is lifted and the breast is re-contoured
into a more youthful pleasing shape.

Some women may qualify to have this procedure
covered under the provincial health insurance plan
(OHIP).
